Having a gentle scroll down my Twitter Home page, I came across these valuable tips from Jean-Luc Lion (Speakers Corner – Principles Of Credibility When Doing Presentations) on how to come across with credibility. Jean-Luc makes the very apt point that however honest and filled with good intention, you may shoot yourself in the foot if you haven’t structured your content to inspire confidence in your audience. If the group you are speaking in front of is in any way negative or sceptical, it’s crucial that you show you have earned the right to be heard.
Jean-Luc points out that it’s important to demonstrate empathy – show you understand their position before presenting your case. He also emphasises how important it is to accept and listen to critical comment without defensiveness. He has collected these tips from a “Dealing With Hostile Groups” seminar. I thought you’d appreciate these ideas on how to feel more confident.
He concludes, “Remember that the best way to sound credible is to focus on the audience, and its concerns, rather than your concerns…..”
